We hear the word thrown around A LOT these days. It’s become the new “it” thing almost. Which is interesting considering we are still the most medicated, most obese, most in debt we’ve ever been in this country. So what does this word “wellness” really mean?

When I looked up the definition of wellness in the dictionary, this is what I found:
noun – quality  or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
noun – approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

When I read this, what I see is: DELIBERATE EFFORT. The result of being healthy in body, mind, and spirit is directly correlated to the deliberate effort and intention we put in focusing in on this direction. Sometimes how well we feel, really depends on how much our bodies and minds realize the amount of effort we are putting in a certain direction. Being WELL is not about meeting a certain number on a scale, or achieving the same look at the person next to you, or always remaining in a calm state of mind. Being well is about how much willingness we are putting towards our betterment goals.

Evaluating your life based on your effort towards your goals will 96.5% of the time make you FEEL WELL. Isn’t that beautiful? Isn’t it great to know that you make progress when you start to make progress your goal. Progress over perfection every time, people. Every. Single. Time.

So just a bit of encouragement for you: If you are pursuing your health, if you are pursuing your goals that better you, you ARE LIVING WELL! That is something to be proud of! When we start to see that we are deliberately pursuing our health and well being we start to see that we really are working towards a prevention of disease rather than waiting for the other shoe to drop, if you will.

Living well simply means beginning to make some conscious choices of what we put in our bodies, what we fill our minds with, and how we choose to move or not move. All it takes is deliberate pursuit of taking care of ourselves. So what will you choose today?

Be Well,
Buffy
